Greetings!
I was recently given an old Curtis compressor and tank. I'm curious about the age of the unit and/or any other info available.
The compressor has a "95" on the crank housing, and the I.D. plate reads "9569-13480". The size is specified as 4-3/16 x 2-1/8 x 3-1/2.

Thanks!
Neil

After a bit of wire brushing (and an encounter with a Black Widow living under the attached accesory box)I found that it is a Curtis tank, and almost certainly supplied with the compressor. The date on the ID plate is 1942.

Cheers, Neil

Woof! That's an oldie. If it has that weirdo centrifugal flyweight arrangement in the flywheel, ditch it for a simple pressure-switch type unloader. They have a habit of wearing out and throwing bits of cast iron all over the place. Not one of Curtis's better ideas. BTW, they have been around since the 1800's. One of the originals.

Your site found while searching for information on my Curtis Compressor: #80 74-4251.
1)Does anyone have a scanned parts/user manual, available on-line?
2)Can anyone estimate the year of manufacture?
3)What size of slow-speed petrol engine (antique) will I need? I have units from 3 to 7 hp available
Many thanks, in anticipation!
Clem

I just bought a big Curtis two stage. This company has been around since the early 1900's, and most of the compressors they make are the same as way back. VERY VERY good stuff. They have a cult following I'm told. You'll probably want to put a 5 HP back on there. Large diameter low rpm is better. Try www.surpluscenter.com for good cheap motors.

It's a 5hp pump, probably a D96. Look for a small metal tag on the tank. It will tell you when the tank was built. If the pump is an original unit, it will be about the same age.

Thanks Roger & Gene
I've got some clean-up on the tank to do in order to read the plate. They looks to be a matched set, and the former owner said there was once a 5hp motor on it.

Cheers, Neil

Do a web search, think they are still in business.
