I have a Jonsered chainsaw and need to put a new bar and chain on it. Do I have to get a specific Jonsered bar for this model, or can I get a different make? The chain I was using broke while sawing- kinda scary. So while I'm changing the chain, I will also get a new bar, as the old one is pretty worn.

If you wish to find part numbers for Oregon bars, go to www.oregonchain.com & click on the selector tab. This will walk you thru the various Jonsered model #'s.

Jonsered & Husqvarna are the same saw, but for some marketing reason, Jonsered saws are more expensive. Southwest Fasteners is probably the biggest online seller of Jonsered.

Bailey's or Madsen's are probably the 2 largest online sellers of chainsaw accessories for the logging industry.

As mentioned, sprockets are a wear item & putting a new chain on a worn sprocket will prematurely wear the drive links.

don, ditto's on ron's comment on checking your ring drive sproket.. if it's worn bad it will break a chain at times...if you replace it also remove the outer cluch housing & put a little grease on the bearing (needle) on the driveshaft,,this is a good time to use the air compressor on all the buildup behind this outercluch.. this sproket comes in a 7 or 8 drive so if you lack power get the 7 if you want more chain speed get the 8... chain breakage can be caused by lack of good bar oil also your saw should be using a tank of oil for every tank of gas.. its that time of year, put on your chaps & hardhat,, hap0py cutting

Don,

Most farm and home stores have an Oregon display with replacement bars and chains for all popular brands. You should be able to find a replacement bar/chain combo. Don't forget to inspect your drive sprocket when you replace your bar. They wear, too, and can cause premature failure of your chain if not replaced when worn.

Good luck!

Ron

Any good saw shop can fit you up with the right bar for that saw.
