I have a 30'x50'shop, pole building type with concrete floor. I can't seem to keep the spiders and other crawley things out. The spiders make a mess and seem to appear and webb everything up overnight after a good cleaning. What is a good remedy, spray or something, to keep them at bay?

If you decide to spray, be advised that spiders are not insects. You have to spray the spider directly to get good results. Spiders should be sprayed at NIGHT, most are inactive during the day. The most effective way to get rid of the web is to tape or clamp two or four plastic bowl cleaning brushes to a length of PVC pipe and wipe them down. Works good for me.

Had the same problem here...it sure ruins your train of thought when you walk into a spider web in your face. I think when they started spraying the field across the road...the bugs just migrated over here and the spiders followed. A trip out there at night with the trigger lighted propane hand held torch and they're sure easy to find with the night light on. A taste of it and they don't have any legs left. And the good part of it is that I didn't have to use any chemicals. Haven't had to do it for a good while. Fred OH

Since all the good stuff has been taken off the market, you might try spraying cracks and crevices
with diazanon. Heard permetherin works well also.

Ben: I didnt know that. Knew dursban was gone. Darn should have bought 6 bottles last year instead of 2. Termites/crickets ought to love this other no kill stuff.

It might take a combination of "cures", but a solution of about 50% household bleach sprayed on the walls of our metal building keeps the spiders away 4-6 months at a time. It's a fairly cheap method that seems to work for awhile.

Haven't used it for spiders specifically, but I and some friends have had very good luck with those wall mounted insecticide spritzer units you get at TSC and such. They sprits out permethrin every 15 minutes. It's worked well in the shops and attics for us.

My grandma used to say that hedge apples (Osage Orange) would keep away the spiders. Dont know if it works or not. I do know that sulpher works well for some of the crawly things though.

I heard that Bois D'Arc apples in my attic would keep scorpions out of my house. Well, it didn't work. So much for the "wives tales". I guess they originated in a simpler time when chemicals were not as available. I now have found a good supply of Chlordane, that stuff is serious. Also glad I stockpiled Dursban before it was taken. It seems everything that works is outlawed sooner than later.

You're not alone out there. Having the same problem with spider webs in the shop. Have heard
that sulphur works well in the yard for fleas and
ticks on pets.

pour yard sulpher around the outside of the building it will keep them out and ants
