Does anyone know of good websites or other resoures with info on how to build your own home generator? I just picked up a sweet deal on Hatz 2 cyl diesel engine, approx 20 HP, and am anxious to use it to power a back-up generator for my home. I'm looking for info on such things as: where to buy a generator head; best size; direct drive vs belt drive, etc. All recommendations welcome!

Northern tool has generator heads, you could also check Smallenginewarehouse.com. I would recomend belt drive not direct. 20HP should give you about 12KW of continuous power.

Northern Tool has some nice belt or direct couple sets that you use your own engine with. Gene Davis

Check out these guys. They are into homebrew stuff like crazy. They have a list of gen heads in different sizes. With 20 HP you could power a 10Kw unit or larger Link
Scroll>Link down to generator heads.

Many sources are available. Some that I remember are: Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, ebay, and Surplus Center.
