There was a question over at the tractor talk discussion board about repairing a cast iron block (crack) and one of the guys there recommended a type of rod called Muggy Weld. I see the website doesn't hook up directly but I've copied it and posted it here below if you are interested. Sounds like good stuff if all that they say on the website is true. Anyone out there know anything about it and if it is as good as claimed? What is different about it that regular NiCad rod? The address is:

Well, I haven't heard of Muggy Weld, but I watched their video of a cast manifold repair. Looks impressive. Although they didn't comment much about the preparation for welding, it looked like they ground out the crack pretty deep. Then they welded with a "72" rod with a follow-up pass of "77" rod. Final product looked good. Supposed to let cool slowly.

If it works and you need to do this type of repair, it may be worthwhile. But the price is pretty steep - $105 for a pound of #72 (14 rods) and $85 for pound of #77 (14 rods).
