Thanks everybody for the tips.

The carb was full of gunk on the crank case side of the fuel pump chamber and it would clog the tiny screen at wide open throttle. I got a kit at the saw shop, cleaned the carb & reassembled it and replaced the spark plug for good measure (it was about 10 years old)put in some fresh fuel mix and it fired right up. Purred like a kitten but needed a little adjustment on the wide open screw. I did check the other stuff that was sugegsted and everything is in good shape there.
So far . . . .
Good for another almost 20 years!

Again thanks.

I have the same saw, wasn't started for a long time and the gas was left in it. Drained the gas, took the carb apart and it looks very clean. Pulled the gas line off to the carb and the gas comes out. The screen is clean. I put gas down in the spark plug opening put the plug back in and it fires right up and runs till the gas is gone. A few seconds or better. I try to start it with a normal start and it won't start, but takeing out the plug it does look wet. I figure it is getting gas but maybe not enough? Any Ideas?

Thanks for the follow up Bob. Glad it is working well now.

I hope that the other guys who gave thoughts in your previous post read this, especially the person who more or less suggested that you should never mess with the carb.

I don`t believe that anyone should randomly start turning the screws, but carb cleaning and rebuilds are just basic maintenance on two strokes and you should expect to do it periodically.

I admit that some of the other responses could have been the right answer, but generally speaking, if you have to replace the sparkplug, there is another problem, either carb or ignition related.
