IR AIR impact wrench ????

Hi I just broke my electric impact wrench! I would like to get a AIR impact wrench now. But I'm wondering if my air compressor will run it ok. I have a 60 gallon craftsman oil free compressor. Dues anyone have the same compressor using the impact wrench at the link below? Any help would be grate

Rod, I just bought this one, check it out. The gun is great, I have it throttled down and the power is still unbelievable. Wouldn't buy anthing else.

Richard that looks really good to! I decided on the Ingersoll-Rand# 2131 because I've used it before at work. It worked well but we had a large industrial air compressor and I'm reasonable shire it will work fine with mine. Thanks to everyone for there input Rod

Hey Rod according to the spec sheet for that wrench it only uses about 4.8 CFM, so your compressor should have no problem handling it. I have the same wrench and I love it. One of the other posts said something about running it at 90psi. It's true that IR rates them at 90psi, but if you read the literature, it usually gives 90psi as the minimum pressure needed for the tool to perform. I work on heavy equipment for a living and have always kept the compressor on my truck set at 150 psi. It makes a world of difference in the way the tools perform, and in almost everyday use, the only tools I have ever had to have repaired is a die grinder that's going on 10yrs old, and all it was was the vanes in the motor were worn, and that's just normal wear on any tool, but especially one that turns 22,000rpm. Have fun with the new wrench, and be careful, the IR at whatever psi packs alot more punch than most other 1/2 inch drives and takes some getting used to.

I think your compressor will be just fine, and you will absolutely love the I-R wrench, I have one myself, and if the I-R wrench won't remove a nut, the only thing that will is a torch.

We have one of the impact wrenches and it is great, we've had cheap ones before and the IR is 10 times the wrench they were. You should have plenty of air compressor to run it too. It will help if you have a 3/8" hose because while they don't need alot of air for long periods of time they do in short bursts.

Hi Rod,

I don't have either the same compressor you do or that particular air impact wrench. However, I think you will do just fine with it. Impact wrenches are not high air consumption tools (except for maybe in short spurts). By nature they are used intermittently and with a 60 gal storage tank you should have no trouble at all, regardless of your actual compressor capacity. Tools like these should have near 90 psig at the tool throttle for best performance so just make sure your compressor can charge the tank to at least 100 psig (preferably a little more).
