I am considering repairing a hole in a plastic fuel tank for a 1975 case tractor. Any input would be appreciated.

i did a repair on a snowmobile tank last year with PC7. you can get it at a hardware store. but as noted i could not find anything that was made to bond to plastic.
it held through the winter but let go over the summer with fuel sitting in the tank.

I think auto parts stores have some kind of plastic weld stuff,I used some on a plastic radiator tank a couple of years ago and it worked good.Seems like it cost about 7 bucks,sorry I cant remeber the name of it.

Yes there is a solution. I accidentally drilled
through the top of the internal plastic tank under the deck of my boat. PPL RV parts has a
plastic tank repair kit from SYON. The kit costs about $ 12.00 and takes about 20 min to apply. Works great. The following link should get you there. www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/caulks-sealants/40754.htm

It is critical to identify the plastic type of the tank before undertaking repairs. It might be polyethylene, in which case, welding is the only satisfactory repair. Same with polypropylene. But identifying it is the first step to successful repair. Also post to the Case forum here- someone there might have already done this repair.

Northern has a plastic welding kit about $150. its basically a hopped up soldering pencile with several tips. and a supply of filler rods made for specific plastics. i know that sounds like a lot but i use it alot around here for from toys to gator fenders to mineral feeders. just consider the safety issues dealing with the tank location and what might happen if the repair fails.

I had to patch a large hole in a small engine tank. I used two part epoxy and a small piece of plastic sheet cut from a milk jug, and worked quite well.
