hello charlie, i can't tell you the cost. i am a machinist by trade and have worked on scored and or pitted shafting through the years. in my area we have a hydraulic manufacturer that also does repairs i think. what we used to do was have the shaft hard chromed. this is the preferred method. by leaving the shaft in the chrome tanks the chrome is deposited permanently on to the shaft. the thickness build up depends how long it is in the tank. usually the hardchrome is allowed to build up about .010 thousandths of an inch oversize. the shaft is then placed in a grinder to take it back to original specs. this is a permanent fix. the other method is metal spraying. the metal sprayer uses a flame head with wire feed and literally sprays molten metal back onto the shaft much the same as if you were spray painting. the shaft would then be reground to spec. for you i would think that the hardchrome would be the way for you to do your repair. the hardchrome method will be considerably cheaper. the metal spraying method usually is done on items that have very deep or ragged deep fissures or galling. most chromers that do hardchrome do not do show chrome. hardchrome is dull in appearance. the lustre is obtained by grinding. what i'm saying is look for an industrial plating outfit. just my $.02 greg
