Anyone know of a place to buy parts for old tools? I have an old 7inch angle grinder that started smoking, the arm is fine, the outside coil started to melt. It's old, it's heavy, and not internally grounded, but it was so tough I would pay to replace the outside coil if possible.

Parts for old B&D angle grinders are totally NLA. I should know, I have a 4232 that needs some bits. About 20 years old, plastic trigger handle.

Jusy buy a newer used one on eBay. Big grinders by high-end companies frequently go for $15-45.

Bishop: I would think there was a reason for the field coil to have melted. Unless you find the reason, a new one may do the same thing. Lots of those motors, if and where you could find the field winding, it would probably cost you more than replacement. I have had an old heavy B&D for probably 40 years, but I favor the 4 and a half one I have more. Only thing that comes to mind is find a elec motor shop and they can rewind the field for you.

My burnt one is an 30-40 year old B+D, large wooden handle, want to sell your old one? I like the heavy thing. I've got a Craftmans 4 1/2 in. it's great but I miss the old one, it would eat so much metal it was amazing, the little one I've got to push it into the workpiece.

Fraid not, No #1 son uses it more now than I ever did. It is a real work horse. Yep it had the reversible handle, seems it was wood also, been a while since I have seen it. Doubt if I could even handle it anymore.
