My tractor is rusting. Help!

It will be a couple of months before I can get my one year old John Deere tractor in the barn, so it is rusting out in the weather right now. I tried tying a blue tarp over it, but the tarp tore all to pieces. I must not have paid enough for it.
It was medium grade. I want to minimize the damage by putting something on all of the unpainted parts, such as a drop of oil. Other thoughts are: grease, Never Seeze, naval jelly, and gear oil. If I use oil, I was thinking I would want to use a non-detergent oil. I thought
of putting a tin can or plastic bottle over the exhaust pipe to keep rain out. I may still use the torn tarp to protect the seat and dash from the sun, but I need an easier way to put it on and take it off. Any help with any of these?

My ranch is 'on the beach' and it's
a rust factory.. you might try what
I do...

Get a 'pump up' garden sprayer and
fill it with diesel. Let 'er rip
every couple months. Try not to hose
down the tires, seat, rubber parts etc...

The diesel is light enough to penetrate into nooks
crannies and cracks.

An old timer in the neighborhood washes
his car this way.. puts 1/2 cup of diesel
in the bucket with detergent to emulsify it. His car looks brand new (as far as rust goes) after 20 years...

Save your oil when you change it. Get a brush and paint it with the used oil now and then.

great tip there I use it on everything that squeeks or rust--Do you use it to clean your paint brushes-I have 2 paint brushes that I have used for 27 years and they are still as soft as new.I don"t really think that many people will be interested in that :) Have a good one
