I am considering purchasing a 20'+5' dovetail gooseneck trailer. Tired of the 6 1/2' car trailer. What are you guy's opinions on gooseneck trailers? Anything to look for? Thanks

Also check out the Fellings made in MN. They have a website and also make them in aluminum. I have a 24' with a 6' dovetail 1999 FT-20 with trips that works great and is built extreamly well, it is a little overbuilt but thats fine by me.

A gooseneck trailer is the only way to go.
Don't make a decision to buy based only on price, some of the less expensive trailers I have looked at are really not built very well, look at several differant makes before you make a decision, wear some clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, and crawl underneath the trailer to see just how well it is put together. I have seen some really crappy welds, and some really poor designs. One brand I can recommend is the Trav-A-Long.

I've got a Big Tex 20ft with a 5 ft dove. Great trailer, the welds are excellent and haven't had any problems except the alum. rivets used to ground the running lights got loose and had to replace with screws. Get compliments on the trailer quite often. Has three fold up ramps with spring assist. Would recommend it.

I agree with the crawing under and looking at the welding and under carrige A gooseneck is the only way to go if you are using a pickup as a tow vehicle

The one I looked at was a Big-Tex. Or maybe its closest competitor. It was a double axle trailer rated at 17000 lbs. I thought $4500 sounded good. I did think some of the welds I saw looked bad. Grandpa was a welding instructor, so I am going to take him along. Thanks

Also, take a good look at how the beavertail is attached, a good trailer will have the tail section as an integral part of the trailer. The cheap ones will have the tail built separately and then just tack welded on.

What do you guys think about Donahue trailers. I looked at one today and was impressed. The only thing it didn't have that I would like is the fold up ramps.

Lucas,
I have a Donahue 20 ft gooseneck stocktrailer and I'm very pleased with it. I got the my the year before they started using galvaneal panels and I'm not that happy with the paint because it's showing rust at the weld joints. But it is a well built trailer other than the paint.

The Donahue I looked at was brand new and it was starting to rust a little. The other trailers I looked at had better paint, but I think the Donahue looks better built.
