I have an very old potbellied stove. I think it will need a new flange for the stove pipe. It's pretty brittle stuff. I have some nickle rods, should I try these or gas weld it with a cast rod? thanks, Andy

Why not make up a flange out of mild steel and bolt it on with a bunch of little stove bolts? I think welding disimilar metals together and then heating and cooling would crack the stove.

There is a pretty solid flange right now. The problem is that it's only about 1/2" tall right now. I thought it would be a lot easier to install if I bent a new rim and welded it to the existing one to make it taller.

I think I would try brazing it. I'm nowhere near a pro welder but have brassed dissimilar metals like these with luck.

Would I have to worry about the brass softening up with a hot fire?
