Does anyone know where I can buy a Devilbliss Generator? Called the company and they said Home Depot sold most of their models. Went to Home Depot in Clarksville, TN. and they had none. Lowe's had none but could order. What is the deal? Are they going out of business or what...Also can anyone tell me how reliable they are? Am looking to buy about a 5000 W. for emergency power... Thanks: Roe

Roe:

I bought a Devilbiss 8000W at Lowes 4 years ago. I had problems with a leaking fuel tank product recall initially. They needed the whole 350 pound generator instead of just providing a new tank. Never been so mad in my life as trying to get that thing fixed. Have not had a problem with it since. I use it on average 2 hours a month thanks to an unreliable power company. It ran for about 30 hours last month due to storms.

Several years ago I bought mine at Lowes, lately I haven't seen any. Last week in the local True Value Hardware store I noticed the Porter Cable brand and It looks identical to the DeVilbris.

Jim: The person I talked to at the Devillbliss 800 number said that they were now the same company.
But Neithe Home Depot or Lowe's carried the Porter Cable or Devillbliss Generator. Have you had any major problems with your generator? Do you use it a lot or very little? Roe

I have'nt had any trouble with my Generator. I do use starting fluid to get it running, I can quickly run out of steam trying to start it. It has one of those updraft carbs. It's 8 or 10 h.p. It has sit for years only running for 20 minutes on a load every few months. The books say to run under load every 2 months to keep the magnets from losing their magnetism. During the storm my Sister-in-law used it for 4 days. I ran it during the Blackout for 1/2 hour and we got our power back.

Roe, Keep us posted to what you find and if it works out for you. I use a 220 plug and back feed from the Garage into the house.I make sure my main fuses are pulled first. I ran a refrigerator, freezer and my bait and beer cooler, lights, fan t.v. and sat receiver. When starting i even forgot to disconnect the pool pump, so had a heavy starting current. Noise is the biggest drawback to having a emergency power source. I have thought about adding a larger muffler.
