My oxy/acet kit is acting up. I appear to have oxygen in the tank but wiht I open the regulator and the valves on the torch, there is very little air coming out. The tank whines a bit at me too. Kind of a noise.

When I spark the acet. it will light well and then when I introduce ox, it will neutralize but when I pull the trigger for cutting the puddle, it doesnt blow very much.

I have cleaned the ends. *I also put on a different torch head, and it is the same situation. And the tank still whines at me.

Ideas?

Most people in the shops around here blow the dust/trash out of the tank connection by momentarily opening the valve with it turned away from you before putting on the regulator and wiping the connection on the regulator with a clean lint-free cloth, saves a lot of headaches.

Jake, remove your gages from the tanks and look into the end of the fittings. They may have filters in them that are covered with dirt. I don't remember how I removed mine but I blew the dirt off of them it made a big difference. Just my .02 worth. Gary

Are you sure your oxygen gage is working properly? How much tank pressure are you showing, and what does the downstream pressure gage read before and after pulling lever? Where is the noise from?

Jake - here's a simple and safe regulator leak test.

First find your regulator instructor manual and read it. Next, shut off fuel gas regulator by turning adjusting key counter-clockwise until loose.

Close fuel gas cylinder valve
Close fuel gas torch valve

Now then, watch your cylinder pressure gauge for quite a few minutes. A pressure drop would indicate a leak on your inlet side. Tighten the connections and recheck.

Make sure you also watch the delivery pressure gauge. A rise in pressure would indicate a leak in your regulator valve.

If the leak can't be stopped - DO NOT USE THE REGULATOR!

repeated warning

If the leak can't be stopped - DO NOT USE THE REGULATOR!

All gauges should read zero when the pressure is removed. If they don't the gauges are probably damaged. If damaged check your system for the cause of the damage. I take my damaged gauges to a local welding repairman as trade in.

Do this same test for your O2 regulator.
