Get this nut off!

My injector pump has gone bad. Its a "CAV" and has three nuts that hold the front of it onto 3 bolts. Two are easily accesible. The third is up against the block on the backside of the pump body. I can see it but cant get a wrench on it Its positioned below the top of the pump and can be accesed only (apparenly)through as space about 1" high by 2" long. Ratched head would never fit in. Its a half inch nut. Is there a box wrench with a downward bend in it? How do I get this out! Please!

Obviously you haven't sacrificed enough knuckle skin to the injection pump gods yet! I've found that sometimes it saves a lot of time just to bloody a few up with a wood rasp or concrete block first. :)
Seriously, there are c-shaped boxed-end wrenches available, but I didn't find either them or the set of crow's foot wrenches I have helpful. What I did was get one of those cheap open-ended flat wrenches. Most open-end wrenches are built with that little 15 degree kink in the head you you can flip them over and work a nut off a half-flat at a time in tight spots. Cut the 1/2" end off of it, and weld it back on at almost a 90 degree angle with the MIG welder. You might need to do this to two different wrenches, each at a slightly different angle (I suggest 15 deg, see above), so you can alternate using them to turn the nut a little at a time and worry it off the stud. I was able to get it with just one, though. YMMV.
Be extremely careful when you put it back together that you don't wrinkle or tear one of those little cup seals on the shaft, or you'll be tearing it back off all over again. Keep an eye on your crankcase oil as you run it for the first couple hours. If it starts making oil, then that's what you've done (ask me how I know). I was told it was possible to replace the pump by threading it back onto the drive shaft, but I ended up removing the shaft and drive gear out the front of the motor, mounting the pump, and then inserting the shaft back into the front of the pump. Otherwise it's almost impossible to make sure the seals haven't been folded. I heard somewhere that there's a seal installation tool available, you might look into that, but I didn't use one.
Be prepared for the sticker shock when you go parts shopping. The head for our pump ran about $600. Hope yours is cheaper.

i bought tool at pump shop for 15 bucks, money well spent. looks like large tweezer but round at ends.

Get an old wrench and heat it with a torch and make your own wrench. Just dont cool it too fast after heating because it may get brittle and break. Iv'e made a couple of wrenches like this and found many spots where they come in handy other than the original intended use, Bill
