Has anybody had any experience with the Harbor Freight/US General air compressors? On paper, they look like a good deal, $397 for a 60 gallon, 6.5HP (I don't believe it, 230 volt, 15 amp) 13CFM at 90psi. I talked to the company that manufactures them, they are located in South Carolina. They said nothing chinese on the compressor, motors are AO SMITH, and the pump has cast iron sleeves with alluminum fins. The manufacturer told me that was better than solid cast, because of better heat dissipation. Anybody have one or have opinions? I am a little leary about dropping that amount of $$$ at Harbor Freight if it won't last.
Thanks

Should be a decent machine for home use. It is an Italian pump. They seem to hatch small aluminum pumps over there buy the bushel. 130 PSI is a reasonable cut-out pressure for a single stage machine. It will run cooler than a cast-iron unit, but faster and a bit noisier. Main downfall of this type of pump is the plastic air filter housing which tends to warp or crack and then fails to seal properly. As these machines often get little maintenance, they are usually left to run with the filter open and that's what kills the valves and cylinder liners. If you are at all conscientious about maintenance, it should do ok. Just don't expect to sandblast a battleship with it.

You're exactly right, I meant to mention that the rep told me that the pump was Italian. I decided to play it safe and reliable and get a 80 gallon Ingersoll-Rand that puts out 18.1 cfm @ 90 psi from Tractor Supply Co. Thanks for the help!

Most of the small IR pumps are decent. I like their small vertical twin cast iron units, the SS3 and SS5.
