McCulloch chainsaw on off switch

I have a McCulloch chainsaw mod number 60013416. I have been having a hard time keeping this running.I cleaned the carb and new plug and put a air line on the tank. When it is running i went to turn it off and the toggle switch would not shut it down. I think is my prombem. There is only one clip on the toggle switch, Will a regular toggle with 2 clips work if i only hook up one side? Thanks for your time. Rick

I believe the stock switch just grounds the magneto to stop the engine. A regular toggle switch with two connections should work OK if you connect one of the clips to a good engine ground in addition to connecting the existing wire to the other clip.

Remember "ON" means a completed circuit and "OFF" mean a broken circuit. Thus "OFF" would be "RUN" and "ON" would be "STOP".
