chainsaw poulan 3800

i am trying to replace the gas tank on poulan 3800 chainsaw and am having problem removing flywheel assembly. i have removed locking nut and washer but wonder how the flywheel comes off of shaft? can anyone help? thanks

The hammer and screwdriver trick will work,but you should use 2 screwdrivers oposite each other, and I have seen crankshafts get bent that way! There should be 2 or 3 holes in the flywheel , with or without threads, (you may have to tap them) for a puller. I have made puller plates for small engines that look like vibration dampner puller, and they work just fine.

put the nut back onthe crankshaft & tighten it even with the end of the shaft, pry under the flywheel with a good sized screw driver , then smack the nut with a brasss hamer(large hammer)
equall & opposite reaction???
