I have an "88" mustang with the 5.0 and manual trans. I thought I saw a thread here about using a different oil in the trans other than auto tranny fluid to quiet them down a little. Does any one here have any sugestions or know what that oil was.
TIA
Jim K

Jim: I havent had fords for years, but I have heard stay away from 80-90in newer manual trannies, due to tolerances. GM used ATF for years and then they came out with an upgrade, seemed to me it was only ATF with hypoid grease in it. Of course, more $. I have heard that 50w synthetic oil is good however. Seems many years ago I had a second car, rice burner, that used regular 50w motor oil. You might want to ask a ford dealer, these outfits always seem to come out with an upgrade as an after thought.

Probably jsut 80-90 weight gear oil. They started using auto trans fluid sometime ago to make it easier to shift in cold weather. May improve gas milage a slight amount too in cold weather.
