I've enjoyed over 100 auctions on Ebay - till now. One bad seller & I found out the hard way that Ebay & their credit card company, Paypal, will do absolutely nothing to help you! If I had used Visa, Master Card or AX I'd be OK, but those Ebay people don't give one hoot about the honest buyers & sellers. They have to be in the pockets of the crooks! They would do absolutely nothing to help me recover my money. I will never, ever buy anything on Ebay again! You are entirely at the mercy of the crooks!

As far as I know, eBay has owned PayPal for several months.

While it would appear the only ones responding to your post have had problems with sellers; I must stick up for the honest sellers who do abide by rules of good business and are using Ebay as a venue to sell their products. Like business on main street of every town, there are persons who will treat you right and there are those who will take you if you have a chance--it's just downtown everyone soon finds out who not to do business with.I have been buying on ebay from Vendors all over the US and have yet to be taken; but I am sure my day is coming but I still will not belive that E-bay is any more a bunch or crooks than
any other sales venue. I never use paypal nor do I sell on e-bay. I would presume Ebay has gotten like most large successful corporations do--they have forgotten just where their revenuse comes from--buyers who are satisfied.

if you used a credit card to pay Paypal, contact the credit card company and see if they can reverse the charge.

I agree with joe. If you paid PayPal with a credit card, you should be able to get the credit card company to remove the charge. If you paid any other way, I'm afraid you're SOL. They will do absolutely nothing. That's one reason that I cancelled my PayPal account.

Ebay isn't much help either. You can complain and get a person banned, but as for getting your money back, don't hold your breath.

I've bought and sold hundreds of items, and have only had one bad deal. Seller didn't send item after I mailed her a check. I went to the post office and filed a mail fraud complaint. Had my money back in a couple of weeks.

I go along with the others who reccommend contacting the Sheriff, Police, or State Attorney General where the seller lives.

Good Luck,

Terry H

You are evidently correct to an extent. Unfortunately, PayPal's buyer protection sez: The Seller will send "something" to the buyer". That's it - SOMETHING - doesn't even have to be the item you bought - just something.

Unfortunately, I had cash in my Paypal account so my Master Card wasn't involved.

Thanks for you interest & ideas!

I share your sentaments.I was also "ebaying" along without any mishaps until one seller cheated me. I sent the money via Paypal and never received the merchandise. When I tried to seek help from Ebay I was completely stonewalled.
The fact is that you don't have any protection
but are convinced otherise by their marketing bull.

Hi, Bobcaesar, It might pay you to read the terms and conditions of Paypal. I flatly refuse to do ANY deals at all with anything that has the Paypal name anywhere near it. I just plain don't agree with having to disclose all the info. they want from you before you can register with them, especially when so few other on-line card processors even ask you to register before accepting your credit card payment.

Maybe I'm getting a little cynical in my old age, but I just think it leaves Paypal users too open to abuse.

E-bay may be able to lift their game a little too but I'd reckon that most of this problem is with Paypal.

The link below will take you to Paypal's old agreement and there is a highlighted 'click here' at the end of the first para. on that page to their new agreement. (Are you, or do you have access to, a Philadelphia lawyer? I couldn't help the feeling that the only thing users are not responsible for is flossing Paypal executive's teeth.)

Best of luck.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Ortunatly many have already entered into this realm. Similar in a way as locals use the new parkway/highway their taxes fund. Within days the exploiters manage to tangle everyone. Now you take a company trying to make an honest living(and a fortune) with their own limitations become a major broker between what they get as people. As the quality of society drops.so does any company tied to integrity.

I had a problem with a seller in Oct of 2001. I had an exemplary record... until this crook decided to take my money and give me the run arounds. I finally filed a fraud complaint with ebay in Dec. (had copies of all my emails and this clown's promises). It took till February (2002) before they could get around to even investigating my claim. Then they (ebay) called in April (2002) and said that they were ruling in my favor... also that of the $68 that I lost... they could only pay me about $35. They did shut down the clown that ripped me off. But it took till June (2002) to get my little check from ebay, but they informed me that they could not take the "slander," from this clown, off my "feedback!" I am sure that this joker just made up another name and is still doing crooked business out there!

Hi Im not sure what happened but you can do a charge back with paypal. Go right to paypal. We stopped taking paypal because people would pay with it and get there stuff then yell fraud and they would do a charge back and your out your money. Depending on the amount of money involed and were you sent it , it could also be interstate thief. And last you can the sheriff department in there area and press charges. I hope i may have helped a little. We have over 650 good feed back and do buy a lot with a promblem only now and then. The last time we ended up calling the state troopers in Fla, and we had our show tent in 3 days.
Good luck to you. Rick

Paypal has a 30 day time limit. By the time I figured out I got scammed they would not do anything to help me. I'm not happy with Paypal.
I called the police in the city where the scammer was from, they took a report but did absolutely nothing.
Now what?

I need to tell you all a little of what happened to me. I bought a laptop computer on Ebay for $150.00 & paid using cash from my PayPal account. It took four weeks to get the computer, which arrived via UPS in a box which was 11" x 12" x 15# with absolutely no padding what so ever! The computer screen etc was distroyed. I had three computer service outfits tell me it was worthless.

The seller sez he took the computer to an authorized UPS outlet & paid them to pack & ship it. He has no interest in making any kind of claim with that outfit.

UPS will not even talk to me - saying they can deal only with the shipper, who won't talk to them. I did not buy extra UPS insurance sine you are automatically covered for I think $150 on any shippment.

Ebay won't say a word about it because the ousted the seller for some other reason. They won't say why. I can't even leave negative feedback.

Paypal says the seller sent me something so their terms were met.

Anyone want a good deal on a used laptop?
