Hi Ya'll,

I've had 3 Ford pickups and had a fair amount of fuel pump trouble in all three.

My current pickup is a 1994 F-250 with a 351 engine.

I've replaced both fuel pumps (the internal ones in each gas tank) already once.

I think the rear pump is going out again and it's been less than a year since I put it in.

I'm as careful as anyone with keeping things clean, reputable fuel suppliers, etc.

Anyone have any comments on what would cause so much trouble or how to avoid it? Would a true blue Ford pump be much better than Autozone or Oreilly's or someone like that's brand?

It sure is a pain dropping the tank down and replacing the unit.

Thanks,
Howard H.

PS - not trying to start a brand war - I've got 190,000 miles on this pickup and it's still rolling strong, except for stuff like this and the hydraulic slave cylinder on the clutch...

Howard,
I've worked on cars and trucks for years, and have found that the factory fuel pumps are practically always better. I have seen only about 1 in 10 of aftermarket electric pumps ever do any good. It stings like heck, but go ahead and get the factory pump. It will save you time and money in the long run. Good Luck and God Bless, Tommy

In addition to Mac's comment, I'd like to add to keep the tank fairly full, the pumps are cooled by the fuel and a fully submersed pump will last longer.

More bucks upfront, but I have always been inclined to stick with O.E.M pumps.
