Try calling around to the welding supply houses, and rental yards in your area. Most of the time if something major happens to the ones on the rental fleets they are taken out of service and used for repair parts for the other ones. I don't know where your located, but Machine and Welding Supply in Dunn, NC has a pretty good collection of old machines like this. I f I remember right they have a Big 40 in the bone yard, but I don't remember which end the guy told me was bad. Their number is (910) 891-1920, and the service guys name is Terry.
Good luck.

Check the mechanical contractors in your area. We use Miller Bobcat or Trailblazer. When one goes down they replace it and sell the old one. 9 times out of 10 it is a problem with the engine, not the electrical side, so it should be safe. Of course, you may have to compete with employees who want it for the generator. Good luck.
