This is coming froma very saftey minded guy. Never hurry something. Yesterday I was in a hurry and drilled a hole in my arm when i was drilling holes in the top crosses on new clothes line poles. The bit walked and slipped of the pipe i was drilling, my arm stopped it. I had my arm around it braceing myself. SHoulld have knowen better but was in a hurry. Fell like S### today for it. Had 3 shots in the ER and on pills for 12 days. The pain is not bad just like a stiff muscle, but is funn milking cows this way( we still use surge bucket units)

How many cows do you milk? Why haven't you gone to pipe line? There are lots of used pipline systems around this area due to the number of smaller (30 head and under) farms that are getting out of milk.

Just thought I could get your mind off the hole in your arm. :)

We have pipe line too. Been in the rafters of the shed for about 10 yrs now. I like the buckets yet and all the pipe line dealers around here say its the best thing for the cows. CHeapest for maintence too. Right now we are at about 50 with haveign to dry a few up soon. Last winter we had 45 calf from the end of nov to end of january. Talk about a mess in a 42 stanchion barn. At the time in nov was was milking 42 and had only 20 to dry off by the first of the yr. We had about a 75 % heifer average over the bull calves. Out of close to 75 calves in the last yr I lost 4, 2 was no chance at all saveing them but the other 2 was hard lessons. From them i have changed my ways of dealing with down calves. I am in wis what about you

A person needs a minor accident every few years (I visit ER every 3-4 years) to keep their tetnaus shot up to date.
