Hi Folks Hope you can help? I have a old Monarch Cement mixer with a old electric motor(still has fabric insulation on the wires)The motor is a 1/3 hp 1750 rpm TECO (company name) How would I add the third wire ground to bring this machine up to date. There are only two studs under the motor wire connection box and they already have the white and black hooked up to them. Thanks

In this case, it would be fine just to connect the ground wire to the frame of the mixer.

You could run ground wire from a point on the motor or frame. Twist it around the length of the power wire & attach a three prong plug to the combination.

The third "ground" wire is just connected to the frame of the motor. It does not connect to any wiring within the motor. Newer motors sometimes have the ground screw inside the connection box. Some have it outside the box, in which case you run the whole cord into the connection box and you loop the long ground wire pigtail back out the same hole to connect to the external screw.
