can this be made? could anyone give me spec's to make this? looked in manual and did not look very difficult but didn't give very good ideas of where all holes are located.

John, I don't believe that the people who are advising you to buy a top link at the store realize that the Ford 501 sickle bar mower had a special top link built into the mower. A standard catagory 1 top link is nowhere close to what you need. I haven't used a 501 in over 25 years, but I'd suggest you post over on the impliment page and on the ford page, where someone may be able to help.

Are you talking about the actual toplink (the adjustable rod that goes between the tractor and the implement), or the fitting at the rear of the tractor where you connect the toplink?

New toplinks are cheap enough that I don't think you would want to make one.

I think you're talking about the toplink fitting at the back of the tractor. Don't try to fabricate this part! It is a heavy forged part; anything you fabricate isn't going to be nearly as strong. You don't want this part to fail under heavy load; you could end up hurting yourself. If this part is too expensive at FNH, you should be able to get a replacement from a tractor junkyard. They seldom wear out.

Specs for all categories of 3ph can be found at asae.org. They might have specs for top links as well.

You can buy a factory one at farm supply stores for about$15 that are better than the old ones with the slotted holes. If you make any kind you will have to buy the ball sockets which will cost you about as much. I have more top links than i have tractors and all hang on shed wall.
