I have a battery charger and it I do not think it is working properly. It will buzz and show a completly dead battery charghed in about 2 hours but the battery only has a partial charge. Is there a way to test a battery chager?

You could take the battery in and have it checked. It may only accept a surface charge which shows as charging fast in your shop but on a load tester it will fail. They claim the load tester can check your charging system, which was mentioned below with the headlight. If you use a headlight attached to the battery with the charger on it, you should show a continuous current draw. If you remove the charger, the light should stay lit for quite a while.

Make sure it's not the battery that's bad before you spring for a new charger. Check the water level, check the voltage, check the specific gravity. If you don't have a load tester, take the batt to a battery store and have them load check it for you. I've had far more batteries fail than chargers.

Take a Volt/Ohm meter and hook to the leads and see what output you have.Should be 12-14 volts on regular charge for 12 volt system and 6-8 volts for 6 volt system. Is the over heat(overload) switch cutting out on you after charging for a few minutes? This is where they usually go bad and then they get to where they will kick off and not charge at all. To test for overload switch problem hook a head lamp in series with the volt meter and you can see if it is droping voltage as it charges or drops it all at once by the switch opening.Leave it connected this way and see how long it takes to cool off and come back on and then how long it takes to open again. As the switch gets worse it takes longer to cool and shorter to overheatand (open). When that happens it is time to find another charger. AD

Thanks for the info. I suspect that it's time for a new charger.
