NH 68 baler knotting problem

Posted this on tractor talk too, sorry if someone gets it twice. We are haveing a knotting problem when hay is running through the baler, we can cycle it without the hay and it knots great, and you actually have a tied piece of twine, but it all goes when it come to baling the hay. any ideas?

It sounds like it is making a loose knot that pulls apart under compression. Try tightening the spring that holds the bill hook closed. Not too much though or the knots will hang on the bill hook. Best to get a baler book. It will have pictures of various knots and what to do to correct the problem in each case. Have someone walk alongside and watch to see what happens to the knot as the bale exits the chamber and the tension is applied to the knot.A knotter has about a dozen different adjustments. Don't change more than one thing at a time or you can really get things messed up.
