I made wind chimes out of drive shafts- they have a nice tone to them. I call them my HURRICANE chimes.I used 6 of them -had a music teacher tell me that there should be only 5. told him that mine had 6 because i dont know how to divide a circle into 5.

When I remodelled the house, I saved all the pig-iron window weights from all the doublehung windows.

I was gonna string 'em up and call 'em Hurricane Chimes. Ya hear THOSE suckers chiming, ya wanna head for high ground!

Maybe he used his cutting torch to remove the bottoms. Could be why you have not heard from him

Bill, I had a neighbor (that always had some "get rich easy" scheme boiling in his pea brain) that told me people would pay big bucks for wind chimes made from oxy/acet bottles. He moved and I haven't kept up with him but it is interesting to see that subject again. Personally I think they are annoying and useless, but what do I know?

A local store had a gong made out of an old oxy tank. Asking price $600. Mentioned it to my brother in-law and the next day he had one hanging up made from scraps around the shop.

I enjoy the humor that some put in their posts. Foam Rubber- funny! Seriously, I do enjoy wind chimes- for about 5 minutes. After that, it gets annoying. So I have none.

we made one out of old wrenches we got at a swap meet. The guy thought we were nuts tapping on them to hear the pitch!!Told him what we were doing and he joined in! Sounds good and looks great!

I like the idea of the old wrenches; I have a collection of antique and unusual wrenches which might be good for that. After my wife bought a set for my daughter made from old silverware, I started collecting it and I've made several sets myself. Do a "Google" search for silverware windchimes and you'll find plans. Basically, you hammer the spoons flat, spread the tines of a fork out 4 ways and loop the ends to hang the spoons from. Then you "coil up" the tines on another fork for the "clapper". I use 14 Lb test fish line to hang them after drillin small holes in the handles. Using a variety of different size spoons gives different pitches, or mix in a knife or fork as well. One of the sites advised using "plated" silverware as it has a better sound Personally, I used the all silver stuff so I won't ever see any rust; just that dark "patina", and my wife says they sound just fine. I find old silverware at garage sales for about 10 cents a piece.

I put one up, but the neighbor complained because it kept him awake, so I gave it away - which is the best thing that I can think to do with one!

I have a bunch of old disk blades and have been wondering how to string them up and what type of striker to put on it.
