I have a Craftsman chainsaw Model #: 385.356070. What i am wondering is how to manualy remove the sprocket without any specialized tools.

As mentioned, some makes of saw have available a device that fits into the spark plug hole and stops the piston from coming to the top. Another way is stuff some 1/4" nylon rope into the plug hole to stop the piston from coming all the way up. Works well for me, but may have to use hemostat to get all the rope out. My newest method is to make absolutely sure of the thread on the crankshaft- RH or LH- and use an impact wrench to remove the nut. The engine compression will hold enough for this method. Do not use the impact to reinstall.

I dont think there is any way. You have to lock the engine up. Ordinairly done by unscrewing spark plug & screwing in plug that blocks piston from moving. If you try to hold the flywheel you will probably break a fin off. Sprocket nut is left hand thread, usually. The thread-in plastic plug only costs $3, so best to buy it from your dealer.
