Water well drilling implement

I am thinking of fabricating a 3-point water well drill so I can punch some small, cheap, wells in my pastures for my cows. Most wells would be less than 50 feet. I am considering using the jet technique where I would wash down PVC pipe by using a pump.No rotating is necessary here. My ground is all soft clay and sand. I would need to build a hoist rack for the pipe on back of the tractor similar to a real drilling rig. Has anybody ever heard of such an arrangement, and does anybody have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi VR,

Do a google search on well drilling as it's not that hard to do.

The drilling mud is what removes the bore by-products and drilling mud is just clay water mix. The drill bit can be made easy with hardsurface welding rod and some common plate.

I'm really thinking about drilling my own at 400ft.

if that is all you are in why not just use a sand point and drive it ?

Well I may be totally wrong but I was under the impression that could be a whole lot more work than just jetting the pipe in the hole. I have never done either so I am just speculating. I have looked at a few websites about driving wells though and it doesen't look all that efficient after you get deeper in the hole. Any firsthand info would be appreciated!

There are companies that already build something like you're interested in, although maybe not for a 3-pt tractor.

I've wondered how well a fence post driver that mounts on a tractor would work for driving a well. You would most likly have to use steel pipe.
