Lube Vinyl Window Frames?

Any suggestions on what to use to lube tight vinyl window frames to make them slide a bit easier? WD40 comes to mind and there's nothing on the label that says to not use on vinyl, so I tried it in a small area without any apparent problems, but didn't seem to help a whole lot.

Is there something else that's effective, or are ther any long term problems with WD40?

Thanks!

Y'all...thanks for the replies. I'll try the soap first, then work down the line.

WD-40 is for displacing water, its good at that, and a fair cleaner, its ISN'T a lubricant and as soon as you get that in your head you'll be happier overall. I agree with T_Bone on this one, bar soap is pretty slick. However you've got to ask yourself why these windows stick. My folks have had vinyl windows for years now and never had any sticking problems. So if yours are "tight" does that mean they were poorly installed or just cheap windows? I've seen some of both instances. In the case of poorly installed I'd fix it as they're just likely to get worse. With cheap windows I'd grease 'em with soap and save up my money for better ones. I don't know where your located, but in the snowbelt regions good windows pay for themselves plenty quick.

Hi Chuck,

Using a oil will cause alot of dirt collection. I've have good luck with paraffin wax or bar soap.

WD-40 evaporates to fast and goes away. I always use a spray that contains silicone on mine. Last a lot longer with no mess.---deadeye

For things like this I use Lubriplate Lubricant--yeah, I know--kind of like the JD stuff, but this is spray Molybendeum(sp?) instead of powdered graphite. I can get the part # for ya tomorrow if ya want--I got mine from the local GM dealership. Works like a charm!

For lubricating things like that I use silicone spray. It works well and lasts a long time.
