Help! I have a been inherited a Marquette model 501 arc welder. There are six holes across the top and three across the bottom for the cables. Can anyone tell me how to use this welder? what do the holes mean as far as amperage etc. What are the three bottom holes for? They appear to all be grounds. Thanks,

well if its anything like an old Sears Craftsman welder then the top holes are for the amperage, left to right, lowest to highest;or if theyre up and down then left side bottom is lowest, right side bottom is highest. the three holes on the bottom are for A heat and B heat. the other one is a ground

I have a 300C Marquette, and it has a row of 8 "holes" vertical along each side. Starting at the lower lefthand side it is 20 amp progressing up the left and down the righthand side to 250amp, with the lower righthand "hole" being the ground. I would assume that yours is basically the same. The amperage marking are rather faint and hard to see. It's a great old heavy welder, with 1/2 hour duty cycle. Hope this helps.

Got one of those. The top row is where your rod line plugs in. Start in the middle and experiment from there. The bottom row is for your ground line. to the left as you look at it is lower, to the right is higher. Same with the top row. I can't really read what mine says as far as amps go, but it's a good welder, at least compared to buying the Ranger I really want.
