I live in the snowbelt of Western NewYork. Lotts of salt with sand to scour paint off. I am thinking of trying an electronic rust preventer. Anyone use one? I see JC whiney has electro-shield cheeper than anyone else. "rust stop" also seems to be a US co I also found lots of use in Australia ERPS and counteract claim to have a capacitive system but that just might be a english differance they call hole in paint "holiday".

Hi, Vince. One of these ERPS gadgets -- unfortunately, I can't remember which one at the moment -- was introduced to Australia back in the mid-90's. The people who imported it anticipated some problems with the firmly entrenched 'spray-on coating-based' rust protection industry here and so took steps to negative them. Here's what they did and what happened.

You may have heard of our Surf Life-saving organisation down here. They have 4 wd beach patrol vehicles to help them patrol the beaches as do many of the coastal shire councils. The importers of this particular product approached the University of Queensland Technology department to monitor some tests for them. They then fitted units to one new vehicle belonging to a local council which was used for beach patrol and one to a surf lifesaving club's new beach patrol vehicle. Both vehicles worked the beaches 7 days a week for 12 months. At the end of this time, both vehicles were handed over to the University technology people for checking. They found NO rust. Other vehicles working alongside these two test vehicles with ordinary spray-on rust protection were commonly being pulled in after 6-8 months to have panels replaced and/or rust cut out.

The spray-on rust protection industry had mounted a case in the courts claiming false advertising on the grounds that rust cannot be prevented, only slowed. They had to drop their case.

I have also been told that these gadgets are in wide use in the U.S. armed forces.

Hope this helps.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hello....I have seen two Dodge trucks with this type of rust prevention. Both trucks were 1991's. I also owned a 1991 chevy and my truck has some seroius rust on the underside. The Dodges look almost like brand new, not one spot of rust. All of these trucks are daily drivers and the Dodges have over 200,000 miles. No I'm not a salesmen for this type of product, but I will definatly be buying some type of electronic rust prevention system on my new truck.

I think if they were actually as good as claimed, they would be well known and very common in the "Rust Belt" states. They've been around for many years in one form or another, seems that they
would be common as rust holes if they really worked.Could be one of them"works great in the lab but not in the real world things".
