Last year I replaced my 80 model 1250 Cub Cadet with a new 20 hp 2300 series the new one is pretty and cuts well but I have to admit it isnt in the league with the old 1250. the tractor and deck are in good shape for a 20 year old mower but the engine is smoking terribly this is the second engine and has about 5 years of weekly use on it (in dusty environment. A new engine is around 800 bucks and I dont want to put that much in the mower

My question. What to do with this good old mower ??? I dont know of any engine rebuilders around here (birmingham, al) that I would recommend... and that don't want nearly as much to rebuild as a new one is there a market for old mowers like this for parts where I wouldnt just be giving it away ??? anyone got a 12 hp Kohler for this mower ???

Thanks

john

why not just stick a set of rings in er yourself???...those kohlers are real simple & the crank runs in ballbearings so's they should be fine...prolly run you bout $200+ just for parts & you can lap the valves while you're in there...kohler has some good manuals too....bro just bought the parts for his & it ran $210.oo for most everything inside...

My dad has one of these in Iowa. Same deal, Kohler started using oil and smoking, and it has been parked for years now. There is a place here in MN that puts 2 cylinder engines (20hp)in them for about $6-800 and they are a lot more smooth. Great mower, but it sure was rough with that single cylinder. I am considering doing this and just use it as a compact tractor to haul small load of hay to the horses / etc. Also, possibly more snow if I could find a snowblower for it. It's built heavy and is handy with the hydro. tranny. You may just need to get creative and find a reason to keep it.

If You weren't so far away I'd come & get the 1250. Check a web site ihcubcadet.com.... Those Cub's are worth as much now as they were 15-20 yrs ago.

I don't have the site. But when searching for mower parts. I stumbled across an old mower junkyard located in Al. It was like acres of mowers. I'll try to find it again, but can't guarantee anything
