Just bought my wife an 02 Trailblazer that I want to get a hicth and balls for. What is the average drop and what type of plug in adapter should I get? My old Jeep Grand Cherokee came with two sizes of balls, and had a couple of plug ins with a snomobile trailer adaapter. I don't have a permanent trailer but use it to pull boat, snomobile, and up to small double axles when I rent them ( and whats on them) from the local rental store. Any hitch advice is appreciated.

Mike..... ...every trailer hitch-up is different due to the height of both the towing vehicle and the trailer tongue height. And you NEED a couple of hundred pounds of tongue weight to keep the trailer from waggin' the tow vehicle down the road. When all hitched up you want your trailer to be setting kinda level and your tow vehicle settin' kinda level and you may need overload springs to do that with yer soft riddin' blazer.

I have a '95 Dodge 3/4T Cummins Diesel with 2WD. I tow a 7000 lb trailer and use 2-5/16 ball and 2" drop hitch. I tow a 2000 lb fiberglass fishing boat and use a 1-7/8" ball and 4" drop hitch. I tow a 5000 lb flatbed with 3000 lb 8N tractor and use a 2" ball on a 4" drop hitch. If I had a 4WD pickup, I'd probably be useing a 4" drop on the 7000# trailer, and a 6" drop on the fishingboat trailer.

Based upon your description, I'd probably start with interchangeable 1-7/8 and 2" balls on a 4" drop hitch..... ....Dell

Wal-Mart sells a Class III Reese hitch that you can install yourself(although it helps to have a second pair of hands). I helped Dad put one on his truck. It installed with a minimum of fuss.
