I'm in the market for a cheap, but effective, power washer to use in cleaning my deck, driveway, etc. I see lots of "home-use" sizes and brands. Does anyone suggest a brand and max. PSI? Thanks

Bought a $100 Karcher. Shelled out in a year-plastic pump. Bought a $100 Campbell Hausfeld-die cast pump. Still running-3rd year.

I like the campbell hausfield, but make sure you get one that both the jet spray wand and the "turbo" wand.

You will want the turbo wand for the deck as it leaves a smooth feathered edge. I tried to use a jet spray to strip and wash the cedar side of my house and couldn't adjust it to do a good job. It was either too weak to work at all or too strong and left tracks in the soft wood.

G, glad to hear your recommendation. I bought a 5hp power washer from the local hardware store. Turned out to be a DeVillbliss. Engine and pump are just fine, but I don't like the wand for the reasons you mentioned and don't like the way the hose likes to stay all kinked up.

I have been eyeing replacement hoses and wands in the Northern Hydraulics catalog, but haven't been able to justify the $70 or so that they want. The powerwasher was $240 - seems like a lot to add.
