I just bought a used Reznor shop heater that was running on natural gas.I need to convert it to propane.I've contacted my local propane company who was "too busy" to fool with me.I need to know if it can be converted.Model No.# XL45-3 Serial No.# AHD3183N832.This unit hangs from the ceiling and is 45,000 BTU.Can anybody help?Heck, anybody close to Carroll County,Maryland want to make some extra money?Come install it for me.CASH PAID.

We had to change all our appliances over to propane recently. Water heaters typically aren't changable - replace, it's cheaper. Kitchan stoves will need the onboard regulator replaced, and the orifices reset on the top burners. The oven needed to have orifice adjusted, and the controller reset. Gas clothes dryer needed a new orifice, and burner air mixer reset. Gas furnace needed new control valve, regulator, orifices, pilot assembly, and adjustments on the burners. Others may have different results. I had one propane dealer who was glad to sell me propane, but told me to find a heating contractor to do the work. Found another dealer who was glad to match first's price, and do conversion. Don't ask why I had to convert - that's a sore spot.

I'm surprised your propane supplier wouldn't help. Maybe it's time to switch suppliers.

Although Reznor probably sells a kit, you may still need to have a professional do the conversion. Sometimes the regulator has to be readjusted after the orifices are changed.

I have run into a piece of technology that cuts the consumption rate of propane gas essentially in half while providing the same heating capabilites. I now wonder whether using this device would make it worthwhile for me to consider converting my entire house from using the natural gas I now buy from Scana Energy Co. to propane.
Any thoughts would be welcomed.
Thanks,

I would see if the manufacturer has a kit. I have converted a couple of things and in addition to the orifices the regulator spring needs to be changed and the gas pressure needs to be adjusted with a manometer or something to measure accuratly. Its not hard, but having the OEM parts would be a good idea and would include instructions.

All I know for sure is that the burner orfice for propane will be smaller than for natural gas. Propane has more BTU per cubic foot. Proper sizing is important.

Been there done that. I asked heating and cooling guys and got all kinds of answers. I made a friend at a local welding supply and he was able to tell me what size the burner orfices had to be,I bought blanks from a heating supply house an drilled them myself. I was able to buy the pilot orfice and also had to buy a new gas valve. The other problem I ran into was nobody wanted to change it over for me and I think it was liability, but thats just my opinion. It can and has been done just keep looking and you will find the right person when you least expect it.

It's a simple matter of changing the jets. You can check their website www.rezspec.com or e-mail them at [email protected] to see if there is a kit for your unit.
