I remember buying a bottle of solution that restored and lengthened the life of 12 volt batteries. Does anyone know where to find this? I don't remember the product name but it was available in auto parts stores 25 years ago

I've had decent luck with dumping the battery, washing it out with running water(you'd be amazed at the crud and chunks that come out), adding fresh acid (cheap btw), and charging it. I've gotten several years out of batteries that way.

Are you getting acid from a battery shop? How cheap was it? I bought some about 15 years ago and used it up. The shop is gone, and the another place says battery acid is no longer sold. Probably due to misuse or environmental.
Well, that's California.

My dad has used plain ordinary asprin for that for as long as I can remember and it don't seem to work to bad. I think he puts about 10 in each cell and tops off with tap water. seem to get another summer out of a tired battery.

I have tried a couple of these kinds of things in past years. Improvement was marginal at best and not for long. I thought they were a waste of money.

Better than "magic liquid" is a battery desulfator. I bought my solargizer on eBay and it totally reawakened the tired battery in my pickup. It added probably 3 months over when I would have replaced the old battery. I finally did replace it because I thought it was totally tweaked at 6 years old, but the new one was no better! I finally replaced the starter and the slow cranking problem is solved... Wish I hadn't swapped the battery now.

I think it was called VX-6...don't know if it is available now or not. Had a brother in law that said to use baking soda to awaken a tired battery...didn't work...and had a mountain of snow looking stuff on top of battery. He had a deadbeat/red faced look on his face to boot. L8R....Fred OH
