Can anyone give me some advise on which Brand Stihl, Echo, or Husgvarna. In the market for a telescopic 12 feet reach saw. My local rental shop got bought out. Now new owners doubled price plus no weekend rates . I think I'd be better off buying.I was renting several weekends a year. I'm not a contractor just have whole lot of high limbs. Thanks Larry W.

Just to set the record straight, I just found out that I was mistaken, the newest Husky polesaw is extendable and I`m sure that it`s a fine tool. I would look into what brand is best supported in your area. Husky and Echo can be bought online but you know the deal with Stihl, better have a good local dealer.

Last February I purchased 9 Stihl HT75's for the fire crew to use on some of my fuels reduction projects on the Eldorado National Forest. The kids on the crew tend to be young and they use equipment the same way they drive cars, hard and fast. All 9 HT75's are still running and ready for this season after an estimated 80 to 120 hours of use on each of them. The key to making them last is to use the correct fuel mix and keep the chain lubed with a lube designed for chainsaws and not some used 90 wt. I can't say one way or the other if the other brands are as good.

Larry, I purchased the Stihl HT75 pole pruner about 3 years ago. I bought the Stihl because all the other 2 cycle equipment I own is Stihl, and I have been happy with their performance. It is nice having the long reach saw available without the hassle of renting. I am very well satisfied with the performance of the HT75. It has a 12" bar with a narrow chain. Goes thru limbs easily. I have had no problems. With any pole saw, extra thought must be taken to protect the saw when that limb you just cut comes crashing to the ground. Philip.

John Deer also makes a motor with different tools. I don't know the reach of the pole pruner as I haven't gotten that yet. I am quite satisfied with the other tools.

I see that Echo also has a series of power head tools that takes several attachments, one of which is a 12' pole pruner; it doesn't telescope. A dealer was recommending this to me, saying I could get more use out of it with the attachments, such as trimmer, tiller/cultivator; I already own an Echo straight shaft trimmer.
Anyone have experience with these Echo PAS power heads??
One thing to keep in mind is that some of the pruners have a 10" chain bar and others are 12" if that would make a difference to you.

I've had the Husqvarna model for a while now. It works better than i thought it would! It starts easily, and does the job it was made to do!! I'd buy it again if needed. Robert

I bought the most expensive Stihl model and have been very pleased- I think it goes out to about 11'. At the time, Husqvarna did not offer an extendable model, but I think that they now do and maybe a bit lower price than the Stihl. On that basis, I would buy the Husqvarna as I have had better service from their chainsaws than from Stihl. My dealer warned me to be gentle with the unit- if it was strong enough to handle rough work, the weight would be objectionable. Read and follow the manual instructions on usage and I think you will be pleased.

Hi Larry, I`ve got an Echo PPT-260 that I`m very happy with other than the fact that it`s heavier than a dead minister. I also looked at Stihl and Husky and decided that the Echo is best for me. The Husky doesn`t telescope as far as I know and the Stihl may not be as well made. A friend of mine who works in a saw shop that sells all three brands as well as a few others told me of the lucrative sideline they have of replacing bent extensions on the Stihls at about $100 each. She said that from what she had been told by most of the guys bringing them in is that if you let one which is fully extended drop through the cut and stop it forcefully just before it hits the ground you will bend the shaft. Of course letting it hit the ground also bends the shaft, LOL. My Echo is working very well and I`d buy another at this point. Have fun shopping. Russ

I bought the Echo too. Very happy with it. I bought it because Echo bought original Power Pruner Co. who developed it. The Stihl is a copy. I bought the Echo over the Stihl simply because the Echo store took my brand of credit card & Stihl store didnt. I predict you will be happy with any of the three you pick.
