I was just given an #450 Silver Beauty armature analyzer. I am hoping someone out there might be familar with this unit or have a manual for it.[Hey I can dream can't I] It seems to work ok but has an extra set of test leads I haven't been able to identify yet. Any info on this model or growlers in general would be appreciated.

The extra leads probably are for testing for shorts to the shaft of the armature from the windings. There should be a bulb (lamp) which will light if the leads are touched together. Careful- there might be 120 volts on these leads. The windings are supposed to end at the commutator bars. But if a winding is shorted in the turns internally, the growler will induce a current in those windings and cause the exterior of the armature to be magnetized while on the growler. A hacksaw blade held flat against the armature is a good indicator. Slowly rotate the armature and test with the flat side of the blade to see if it is attracted to the armature. If so, there is an internal short in the winding(s).
