Looking for some input on the Dewalt DW872 cutoff saw. The one that uses the carbide blade. Anyone using one and how do you like it? Are they worth the money? How long do the blades last before needing sharpening? Do you recommend buying one?

After hearing the below posts...I think the old DeWalt chop saw suits me just fine. It has been used and abused to cut stuff inches in thickness and it is still going and going. I just cannot see how those metal blades could hold up to the way I have to use a saw. BTW when you catch 14 inch blades on sale at Harbor Freight, buy all you can carry. Their blades are as good as any you can buy and I have used DeWalt, Makita, Forney, that is one item they make (or buy to resell) that is OK.

I love mine! Much better than getting you nose full of black soot from the chop saws that burn through the metal. Clean and cool cuts.

My only gripe is that the saw creates little chips of metal when cutting. They kinda shoot out all over the place, so clean up is a pain. I'm still working on how to fix that problem.

I haven't had the blade sharpened yet. Moderate amount of use and still cuts fine.

Is this what they call the "MultiSaw"? I've got one & it is indeed super. Cuts fast, clean & realitively burr free. Everything Dewalt sez about it is true.

CAVEAT:

1. It is very powerful & you absolutely MUST use the vise PLUS anything else you can to tie the work down! DO NOT TAKE SHORTCUTS! It can really grab & throw stuff - Enough to kill you or anyone in the path! I wear eye, face & hearing protection AND stand as far to the off side as I can, eyes shut, face turned away (which is probably very stupid!).

2.A new blade costs over $125.00 & are hard to find. The blades are unforgiving if you screw up the setup, etc. Bang - and your out lunch money for a month! They can be resharpened, but often in an "accident" they are bent & become so much junk.

Having had to replace a blade I wonder if my dirty, old abrasive DeWalt wasn't money better spent. That having been said I'd buy another MultiSaw tomorrow.
