I spoke with a warranty tech. at Husqvarna this morning regarding the crankcase breakage on our 55 Rancher (see "don't buy a Husqvarna" posting from last Friday.) They will send a set of used replacement crankcase castings to my local dealer at no charge. We will still have to pay for labor to have them changed, but at least we don't have to buy new castings for $200. I think that this is fair, so I'm retracting my "don't buy a Husqvarna" statement. I definitely will not go back to the dealer where I purchased the saw, since this could have been resolved by them. They wanted $20 from me to make the same call I made to Husky, but I was able to get the parts while they were not. I really like my first 55 Rancher saw that I've had for four years now. It's too bad that we had to have problems with this one.

I would write a formal letter to Husqvarna detailing the entire experience and especially the way the dealer treated you. I think they would like very much to know about it. The fact that they are sending the parts to you at least is proof they stand behind their product and want to see you happy. I know it could take a little time to compile the information but it could be very well worth it. In this day of competition, companies (at least SOME of them) want to keep loyal customers happy. I would explain that you have owned their product before and your experience with the dealer ALMOST made them lose your loyalty. You know....word it up! I could write letters like that (and I do now) that could make someone cry! Heck, they may send you a new saw....they may send you a voucher, they may do nothing but it is worth a try. I stand with what I said before, they do make the best saws in my opinion. Lots of guys are brand bashers here because they have an agenda (work for a dealer or competitor) but I don't. I just know quality tools when I see and use them.

Loren, I'm glad to hear that it worked out for you! Few things are more frustrating than a dealer that won't work with a customer, been there done that.

Did you mention your experience with the dealer to Husky? They probably want to know if he's not treating customers right.
