The starter on my tractor will spin but not engage the flywheel to turn the engine over. I took starter apart and the only things I saw was the commentater was dirty. The fields look fine. I don't know how to check to see if the Bendix spring is any good. It doesn't feel bad but it won't kick out when I hook power to the starter.Any help would be appreciated..... .

Lyle, what kind of tractor is it? It sounds like the "starter drive"(bendix)is not engaging. The reason it isn't depends on the type of starter you have.
