I stripped the threads in one headbolt hole in the block of my ford Taurus. The bottom third of the threads is still good. Is this enough to hold or do I go to some type of insert, or could I go to a larger size bolt? Any and all advice welcome. Thanks

Hi John,

My recommendation would be to use a HeliCoil stainless steel threaded insert. They are available at NAPA or any full service auto parts distributor. I have used them many times. They cost a little $$$ but work great. I generally keep several common sizes on hand for just the situation you mention.

Well it might be, but you don't want to find out it isn't. I would try drill and tapping deeper if this is possible. But the sure thing would be to put some kind of insert in. There are several different types, see if you can find a McMaster Carr catalog if you can't get anything locally. good luck.

Be careful when trying to drill deeper you might get into an oil gally or water pasage. On second thought I don't think I would drill at all I think I would stick with the Heli-Coil.

heli-coil is only way to go.but you need to make a drill guide and put a stop on the drill so you don,t go to deep.get the right length heli-coil also.
