We are thinking about running a bunch of soaker hose around my wife's flower gardens. We are on a well for the house, but we have a cistern just sitting here with no way presently to get the water out. I would like to tap into that water source with the following pump:

Simer Pump Co 1 HP Stainless Steel Sprinkler/Booster Pump
Non-corrosive, stainless steel pump is ideal for lawn sprinkling and pressure boost applications. 1 female iron pipe suction and discharge port with 3/4 garden hose adapter. 25-ft. vertical lift. Features built-in thermal overload protection, a 6-ft. waterproof power cord, and handle and stand for easy portability. UL listed.

This is for sale on Northern's website. I figure that I can attach a one inch pipe to it and let her rip. Does this pump have enough guts to run about 200 feet of soaker hose? Any other suggestions for getting that water from the cistern to the flower beds would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I would think the pump should be sufficient. You will also need a pressure switch and a small pressure tank hooked up to the output of the pump. The inlet of the pump will require a foot valve on the end of the pipe down in the cistern.
This is the way I have mine set up and it works great.

Hi Tom,

You might want to research at this website as soaker hose is not too well thought of but drip irrigation is. I only skim read a few posts and this website is not like this one. They have alot of wanna be's gardeners that tend to not know what there talking about so be warned. It is the best garden website that I've found.

I would add a bladder pressure tank with a large draw down capicity. This will keep the pump from cycling on as much and make the pump last longer.

SS is about the same as steel when it comes to pumps. My pressure pump has a 304 SS shaft and when I went to install a new seal kit the SS shaft was not useable as the water had pitted the shaft.
