Hi, this might seem like a dumb question but i have been working on some Big Husky hog feeders and to get the rain stop mid sections out you have to remoze some pop rivets. I hack sawed the top off but now i cant get the bottom off. I cant get it out with a punch and my dril wouldnt go through. i have different bits i could try but what do u guys do to remove them?
thanks for advice

Stick with T-bone, especially if there are a lot of them. Jack

Well, all I do is find a drill bit slightly bigger than the shank size, because you do not always know what size the shank is just make a educated guess, then drill it. If it begins to turn then angle your drill from side to side enough to make it drill, won't always stop turning though but will drill. I have some experence riveting and removing rivets, dad had a Gleaner combine that was stored outside and it always seemed to rust the cross augers out even rust out the metal we riveted in. Good luck

If they are stainless steel then the best way is to grind the head off then try and drive the main
rivit out with a punch, if not drivable then grind the main body off and the last little bit will fall off with the help of a punch and hammer.

On steel shank poprivets, you have to punch out the steel shank first, then drill out the rivet, may have to hold it with a pair of pliers to keep it from spinning. Good sharp chisel also takes them off nice once that steel shank is out. providing the surrouding sheet metal can withstand some hammering. John in Ne.

I was always able to remove them by drilling, maybe this isn't always the case. I use the same size drill bit as the rivet, if it's an 1/8" rivet drill with 1/8" bit. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi Mike,

On 1/8" rivets use a 9/64" and drill the rivet head, the part with the flat washer, and it'll drill the center stem right out.
Use a #30 drill bit for new rivet holes on 1/8" rivets.

5/32" and 3/16" rivets can be removed the same way using a 1/64" larger bit than rivet diameter.

I grind off the side I can get at and then if it doesn't fall apart by itself I just knock it out with a hammer and small punch.

A Dremmel tool with the small cutoff disks works real well for cutting heads and other end (tails?) off.
