Friend of mine has a Lincoln welder that will not start cause it has no spark. It has what looks like a Hercules 4 cyl water cooled flathead, and does have a flange mount american bosh magneto. 2 questions, first, who made the engine? 2nd is the magneto a gear driven or a lug driven impulse? We'd like to take the magneto off to check the points. there is a governor bolted on the other side of a thin timing gear housing. the same bolts that hold the magneto on, hold the governor on too!And of course, we appreciate any help.

The engine on your Lincoln welder is likely a Continental, either F-140 or F-162. The bolts for the mag and governor are shared in commom. If you remove the bolts on the mag, there should not be a concern about the governor. IF memory serves, the mag is impulse coupled. Good luck. Regards..... ..P
