Just wondering if anyone is using that Husky air compressor from home depot that is like 60 gal and 7 HP, I think around here it runs around $399.00. I am looking for a home shop air compressor that will be used occassionaly to run some air tool and glass bead cabinet

Thanks,
Bill

Have a small pancake style Husky compressor that worked for light duty use. Hooked it up to a sprayer occasionally. It lasted a couple years. What I was wondering is, does anyone know where I can order parts, or are they disposable? Will work as a great tire compressor or to loan out :)

Thanks

I used to work at Home Depot and I sold these compressors. If you look closely at the sticker on the tank, it says "develops" 7 horsepower. If you also notice the sticker, it says that it develops approximately 6 CFM "free air" at 40 PSI. Now look on the motor nameplate. When the horsepower is listed, it says "SPL". That simply means that the motor is purpose-built for that unit and, in reality, the motor is a "real" 1 1/2 or 2 horsepower. The way companies are allowed to market air compressors is misleading, IMHO. Think about it. A "real" 7 horsepower motor will cost almost 500 dollars. How can they sell a "real" 7 horse compressor, complete, for $399? Husky compressors are made by Emerson Electric in St. Louis. As compressors go, they are fine for light duty, airing up tires, etc. A bead blast cabinet, and most air tools, require a minimum of 10 CFM at 90 psi. Home Depot sells a larger Husky compressor, with a real 7.5 horsepower motor, mag starter, 2 cylinder, 2 stage, 80 gallon tank for $1599. This model is a good compressor that will more than handle what you want to do. I realize that money is always an issue, but, again in my opinion and experience, you will be dissatisfied with the smaller compressor for you needs. Good luck with whatever you decide. Regards..... ...P

great reply PD, thanks for the info. I think I may be better waiting and getting a better compressor, I truly believe you get what you pay for.

Glad I could help. The largest model Husky compressor that Home Depot sells is a good compressor that would likely do what you are wanting to do. It is my understanding that Quincy now markets, at home and farm stores, a lighter duty version of their mega-bucks industrial compressors. They feature real 5, 7.5 and 10 horsepower Baldor or Marathon motors, mag starters, pressure lube and oil filters on the two larger models and 80 or 120 gallon tanks. 60 gallon verticle tanks are available on the 5 horse model. They are painted dark red instead of the traditional Quincy blue. They also operate on single phase power. They have all the quality and dependability traditional with Quincy, and start at $1800 or so and go to $4000 or so. The industrial models start at $5000 and hit the sky from there! I have a forty year old single stage Quincy that I paid $3000 for, suspecting that it needed a good painting and rebuild. It does pump a little oil, but just keeps on working. It is 10 horsepower, about 40 CFM and is a real tiger. Even my body man with his air files and air grinders can't out work "Big Bertha". Best investment I ever made. I have a two year old, two stage, 10 horse Ingersol that sits in the corner collecting dust while that old allegedly worn out Quincy works faithfully every day. There is just no comparison. Good luck with whatever you decide and consider, at least, a Quincy. Regards..... .P
