Mine is a 7500-watt generator. The motor looks like a B&S Vanguard Two cylinder But mine is only single cylinder. It is 15 HP it has an oil filter but so does the Vanguards. No dought it is the same type Japanese technology but the motors are a bit different than the Vanguards. When I bought mine I was told that Generac bought out Colmanpower products so thay could make there own, maybe they did. On there web site at the bottom of the page states ( Generac Portable Products is a registered trademark of Briggs & Stratton Power Products Group LLC.) Check it out at there website at Link to see for your self. I have herd too many stories so maybe there is more to it I don't Know.

I think Generac has the motor made in Japan, and it's "there" own motor. I keep hearing they are on the noisy side but quite reliable. The B&S is made in Japan too, so maybe that muffler the other poster mentioned is a part bought for both Generac and B&S from the same supplier? Robert

I have a Generac 5500. Manual claims a Generac engine. However it looks like a B&S. Definitely a B&S muffler. It does have an oil filter - I haven't seen that on a B&S. I'd be interested in opinions
